Japanese company Tamiya Corporation is a manufacturer of plastic model kit, radio-controlled cars, battery, solar-powered educational model, sailboat models, acrylic and enamel model paints and various modeling tools and supplies. The company was created in 1946 by Yoshio Tamiya in Shizuoka, Japan.
Tamiya got his reputation among hobbyists with their amazing quality and accurate scale details. This reputation was so strong that it reflected directly on companies' motto "First in Quality Around the World".
At the start of the company, Tamiya produced metal molds but with delays and unclear pricing, it led Tamiya to trouble. Then they find a metal-mold craftsman in 1965 and started their own Metal Models division. In a time when Tamiya manufacture plastic models using craftsmen's skills, other companies' products' detail bolts were represented by simple hemispheric protuberances while Tamiya represented bolts more accurately as hexagonal posts. This level of detail and thoroughness with which they produced their models earned them a reputation even overseas and it still lives up today
Tamiya also has 2 Guinness World Records in radio-controlled cars
- Greatest distance by a radio-controlled model car on one set of batteries 38.28 km (23.79 miles) by David Stevens of Australia
- Greatest distance by a radio-controlled model car in 24 hours 269.7 km (167.58 miles) by students of Anna-Schmidt-Schule
